NEWTHISWEEK The Lootpocalypse is upon us! Last week we told you about our next event, The Lootpocalypse. It starts tomorrow and in this week’s Battleplan, we’ll give you a few details as to how it will work. It’s pretty simple, so we’ll just lay out what you can expect:
Notice that last one – discounted loot packs. That means that no matter what play mode you prefer, you’ll be able to participate in The Lootpocalypse. It’s time to stop hoarding those Credits and start rolling in the loot! We’ll be discounting Rare and Epic Loot Packs by 25% and Faction Loot Packs (with skins, taunts, and faction based gear) by a whopping 50%! The Battleborn Lootpocalypse will run from tomorrow (Friday, July 15th) at 8am PT until Monday, July 18th at 8am PT. Also this week, we’re excited to announce the next bit of content for our Season Pass players – two exclusive skins! Starting today, Season Pass owners should begin seeing two new skins in their Command Menu – Toby’s “You Gotta Speak Up, Little Guy” (cyber) and Alani’s “Thermocline” (gold) skins. We’re looking forward to continuing to bring even more content to Season Pass holders over the course of the summer. If you want to catch up on our vision for add-on content, check out our roadmap post on the Battleborn blog. HOTFIXES
Fixed an issue that caused some pieces of gear display incorrect rarity COMMING UP As you know, there are lots of great things on the horizon for Battleborn and one of them is Broadcaster Tools. Broadcaster Tools will allow content creators of all stripes to bring their viewers (maybe that includes you) enhanced views of Battleborn matches. Broadcaster Tools will be very useful in the eSports community as well, making it easier than ever for the audience to see the whole battlefield. Battleborn Technical Director, Neil Johnson, elaborated a bit for us on Broadcaster Tools: “We've added a new feature to Versus Private: 'Broadcaster Mode'. Versus Private Matches now allow up to two added players to join a new third team, labeled "Spectator". During the match, these players can spectate the battlefield using a set of third-person camera controls to follow players on either team or to move freely around the battlefield. On the PC, keyboard hotkeys allow for quick-jumping to players and to fixed points of interest. Of course, PS4 and Xbox also support Broadcaster Mode, and we think you'll find the camera controls just as easy to use on those platforms. We're calling this "Broadcaster Mode" because we hope that folks will use it to create interesting new battlefield perspectives that can be shared with others over streaming services. We’re excited to see what you create! We will be making continual improvements and additions to Broadcaster Mode in the coming months. Stay tuned!” |

Hello folks – First off, let me thank all of you for your patience and support as we’ve worked on improving our matchmaking. As I said in my post to you last week, these are often complex systems that aren’t as straightforward to change as they might seem. We have some constraints (in both time and current architecture) that limit what we can do, or what we can do quickly. Furthermore, some things can only be tested by trying them out with thousands of players and then measuring the results. That’s what we did last week! What We Tried Last week, we replaced the Incursion, Meltdown and Capture queues in Versus-Public with Casual, Competitive and Spotlight Battle queues. Our main goal was to shorten the time to match for all players, but allow players some choice of choosing to wait longer for a more skill-oriented match (Competitive). We knew that taking away choice is often a hard sell, so we tried out Spotlight Battle as a way to give you some choice on a scheduled loop. What we hoped to see was reduced time-to-match and improved accuracy in skill-matching for Spotlight and Competitive. What We Saw & Learned Loudly and clearly, we learned that you--our community--values choice of what to play very highly. Many of you love one particular mode, and want the choice to play that mode exclusively. While Spotlight Battle helped with that, it wasn’t enough. Most of you also expressed a preference to wait a bit longer if that provided the mode you want. Additionally, we learned that most of you who identified yourselves as “Competitive Players” really REALLY like Incursion – Overgrowth. So much so, that when we set Incursion – Overgrowth to Spotlight Battle, the queue times for the Competitive queue increased quite a lot. The day before Spotlight appeared, however, Competitive queue had longer (but reasonably longer) queue times and often resulted in good matches. The Casual play queue did match fairly quickly, faster than before. However, given that no matchmaking was applied there, we saw an increase in the complaints about “bad matches” and “pub stomps” where pre-assembled teams of good players went on killing sprees versus less prepared teams. Generally, the changes we put in last week did not result in the improvements we desired. Where We Go Next We are bringing back our old familiar queue friends – Incursion, Meltdown, and Capture, and we are sending Casual Plan and Competitive Play queues to the time out corner. I’m not going to say we will never try those again, but we would want to wait for much different circumstances. We’re making a few small tweaks to the three existing queues to help improve your experience, though. We did have some issue before (mostly time-to-match) and want to keep working to address those issues. With the returned queues, you’ll see them in an order related to mode popularity: Incursion first, then Meltdown, followed by Capture. As many players tend to click the top button first, we’re going to add some weight to Incursion becoming the default choice. Secondly, we are enabling skill-matching again on all three queues, but are loosening the constraints on matches. You’ll see a bit more variance in the skill of players you match with, but you should also be able to find matches within a reasonable time. Where We’re Going in the Future Matchmaking is something that we’re always watching and working on improving. With the upcoming major patch, we will have some additional dynamic control over balancing quality of match with time-to-match to help handle long, outlier match times. We’re also investigating other possibilities, but I’ll wait mentioning details of those because the timeframe of those improvements is uncertain. Finally – thank you again for your patience and your support of Battleborn. I’m extremely grateful for all of you who took some time with these changes and provided detailed feedback of your experience. I read through every post I could find, and I take all of your feedback to heart. We are dedicated to making Battleborn the best experience possible. Sometimes, not every change is a clear win. We’ll keep working, and listening. For Solus. |

HOTFIXES ・Reduced the Lifesteal percentage granted by Oath of the Sustained. ・Adjust Character Select timer to 90 seconds for PvP maps. ・Temporarily removed M3.Shepherds from Incursion for bug fixes. ・The following pieces of Gear (mentioned provisionally last week) are being disabled temporarily: COMINGUP ・New PVP Maps: Yes, they’re on the way! Three more maps are coming to Battleborn in a couple of weeks. ・Versus Matchmaking Changes: Next week we will be revealing and releasing a new iteration to the matchmaking system. These changes are being made with the intent of further refining the matchmaking experience for players everywhere. Stay tuned to the Battleborn news blog for more details. ・Broadcaster Mode: Broadcaster Mode is something that you guys have been asking for and something we’ve wanted to do for a while. This feature will let you broadcast and stream matches through third-person camera controls. We’re hoping to bring you Broadcaster Mode next month. ・In-game Reporting: It’s important to us to give each player the best Battleborn experience possible and players who cheat or disrupt others’ ability to play the game ruin that experience. We’re working on an in-game reporting feature to allow you to flag players who are suspected of cheating, abandoning games, or ruining the overall experience. Our goal is to include the reporting feature in the next major patch update for July. |

As we mentioned above, this week we released the second update for Battleborn. This update contains fixes for various performance issues, but also includes some great quality of life improvements and features that you all have asked for. PVP maps and modes are getting lots of improvements and performance tweaks. Not only that, we added “Particle Detail Mode” in the Video Options menu. This mode is in direct response to community requests to have more control over the way visual FX are experienced in Battleborn. The full notes for the latest Battleborn update can be found on our Knowledge Base. As for this week’s hot fixes, the star of the show is Alani. We’ve gotten lots of feedback from the community on Alani and her abilities. It’s important to us to use not only community feedback, but also the behind the scenes data when considering balance decisions. It’s also important that we spend an adequate amount of time monitoring that data to get a sense of where a given character is in relation to where they should be for proper balance. In the case of Alani, our recent adjustment to her health brought her survivability down to what our team felt was an acceptable level, however, her Kill-to-Assist ratio has continued to be an outlier for what we would like to see for a support class. As such, we are reducing some of her primary attack's effectiveness as well as some of the AOE burst damage associated with her Riptide skill in order to bring her closer to expectations. With all that in mind, here are this week’s hot fixes:

It’s time for your heroes to start looking positively splendid! On June 16th, we will be rolling out an update that expands Battleborn’s in-game Marketplace, and with it, we’ll be introducing some exciting new cosmetic content for your favorite heroes. The update introduces Battleborn’s premium currency, Platinum, which will allow you to purchase brand new skins and taunts for your heroes. The first wave of cosmetic addons includes skins for all 26 heroes and taunts for Ghalt, Oscar Mike, Benedict, Shayne & Aurox, El Dragon, Whiskey Foxtrot, Kleese, and Alani, with more to come in future updates. What kind of new skins are we talking about here? Here are a few examples: We know what you’re thinking. Don’t worry! When we expand the Battleborn Marketplace on June 16th, we’ll be offering premium taunts and skins that will not affect gameplay at all (warning: may make your teammates and opponents incredibly jealous). This optional, cosmetic content we’ve created comes in addition to all the skins and taunts we’ve already put in the game. On top of that, the first five Battleborn DLC Packs will have EVEN MORE skins and taunts that are only unlockable by playing the Story Operations and will not be sold individually in the Marketplace. You will be able to purchase Platinum Packs through PlayStation Network, the Xbox Store, or using Steam Wallet within the game, then use the Platinum in-game to load up on a variety of new skins and taunts of your choice. Each DLC Pack will also be sold through the Marketplace as it gets closer to its release. No need to buy anything if you don’t want to, though – unless you want your favorite Battleborn heroes to look that much more badass. It’s all part of what we talked about months ago. While we are providing lots of content as part of the base game, we also want to put out some cosmetic extras to help you make Battleborn’s heroes look as badass as you are. What else could the Battleborn Marketplace hold? That’s up to you! In addition to awesome skins and taunts, we’re also exploring convenient ways players can add bank spaces, loadouts, or boost their XP and credit earnings that do not affect actual gameplay. We don’t have a timeframe yet, but we are interested in your feedback. Let us know what you’d like to see in the Marketplace in the forums. If you have more questions, we have a handy FAQ right here with all the answers: When will skins and taunts be available in the Marketplace? June 16th, 2016 How much will Platinum Packs cost (USD)? $1.99 for 230 Platinum Skin: 420 Platinum Taunt: 230 Platinum Where can I purchase skins and taunts? Skins and taunts will be available in the in-game Marketplace. You can access it by navigating to the Command center then clicking the “Marketplace” tab. When will individual DLC packs be available to purchase? DLC Packs will become available closer to their release. Stay tuned to @Battleborn on Twitter and the news blog for more information in the coming weeks. What characters will have new skins and taunts available? The Marketplace will initially expand with skins for all 26 heroes and taunts for Ghalt, Oscar Mike, Benedict, Shayne & Aurox, El Dragon, Whiskey Foxtrot, Kleese, and Alani. We’re always looking for creative ways to show off Battleborn badassery, so keep an eye out as we release more skins and taunts in future updates. And remember: as we’ve said all along, we’re stuffing Battleborn with lots of free content across the board – five new, free heroes, competitive multiplayer maps, modes, and updates. Keep an eye out over the next several months as we have lots more content coming down the pipeline for those who own Battleborn. |

New Content: New Character, Alani We made a few changes to Incursion to prevent teams from snowballing to victory after defeating the first sentry. Now both teams get equal opportunities of lane pushing power at select times during the match. In addition, we added some extra power to the Thralls so that they help expedite team pushes. Incursion Empowered Minion Waves no longer spawn for a team after killing the enemy's first Sentry. They now spawn for both teams every fourth minion wave. All Thralls, when captured, no longer target enemy players Modified the sniper nests to prevent players from engaging the first sentry from across the map. Shepherds spawn every fourth wave instead of after the first Sentry is destroyed. Ambra: Ambra’s Extinction Event provided unnecessary crowd control due to the large area of effect. We removed the slowing effect to allow for better counter-play options around her ultimate. Ambra’s Extinction Event skill no longer slows enemies. Boldur: Fixed an issue with the description of Boldur’s Legendary gear. El Dragon: Fixed an issue that allowed players to move bosses using El Dragon’s level 8 Mutation, Unbelievable. Deande: Added a short cooldown to Deande’s Drop Kick to fix unintended vertical maneuverability. Galilea’s desecrate was never intended to constantly apply crowd control or debuffs on enemies throughout the duration. We changed the augmentations to only apply the effects at the cast of the skill. This change now requires Galilea players to use Desecrate more effectively and allow some counter-play if players find themselves falling into the Desecrate. In addition, we made some fixes to her melee attack so Galilea is now moving like all other melee when attacking. Galilea’s level 1 Right Helix Augment, Calamitynow only wounds players when Desecrate is initially activated. Kleese: Fixed an issue that allowed Kleese’s Energy Rifts to replenish Sentry shields in Incursion. Marquis: Fixed an issue with Marquis’s level 2 Mutation, Eyes Everywhere. Miko: Fixed an issue that prevented Miko’s Fungus Among Us from displaying the mushroom’s trajectory when primed. Shayne and Aurox: Fixed a rare issue that allowed Shayne and Aurox to gain permanent health regeneration with their level 7 Left Helix Augment, Alone Time Non-Player Characters: Fixed an issue where minions could become very difficult to kill after being affected by certain healing sources. Gear: Character Legendary gear no longer uses randomized values. Quality of Life: Added “Faction”, “Character Rank”, “Lore Challenge Completion” and “Unlock” sorting for Battleborn in the Command menu. Match Making: Fixed an issue with matchmaking hosts that should reduce the number of connection failures. (XB1) Audio: Added unique sounds for attacking Immune and Overshielded Localization: Various localization bug fixes. |

Hot-Fixes Galilea: We took a good look at Galilea’s damage and found that she still has the ability to kill players in a short amount of time. We want to promote the health regeneration and zone control loops so we reduced damage some more. The Shield Throw skill was set to a high damage multiplier which we usually award to skills that deal damage only. Since the Shield Throw has a stun, we reduced the damage to match other skills that contain crowd control on top of damage. Reduced Galilea’s Great Sword damage by 18% Miko's ability to heal others and itself at the same time proved to enable duos of players to dive enemies without much risk. Now, Miko players will have to navigate spaces with more precision and rely on allies to peel off enemies more often instead of being able to just turn and run away. Reduced the movement speed bonus of Miko’s level 7 Left Helix Augment, Fight or Flight, to 15% and its duration to 2s ISIC's Rotating Wards allowed ISIC to soak lots of damage while dealing lots of damage. The reduction of Rotating Wards’ strength gives enemies a faster window to prevent ISIC from controlling the area. In addition, ISIC players could manipulate their shield regen easily with the first augmentation and some gear pieces so we reduced the augmentation strength. And since ISIC has so many defensive options, we wanted players to be able to quickly whittle ISIC down if they got past his defenses so we reduced his base health. Reduced ISIC’s base health by 20% General: Adjusted skill-based matchmaking ranges to speed up matchmaking times |

Character Balance: AMBRA: Ambra’s damage output combined with her lifesteal and escape abilities resulted in very high survivability in fights. We wanted to bring this in line with our expectation and reinforce her melee loop as part of her damage output. Reduced Staff of Radiance beam damage by 34% CALDARIUS: Caldarius’s primary damage output was not as high as we would have liked to see. We’ve raised it to bring him close in line with other characters in his class. Increased TMP damage by 25% GHALT: After a large buff during Open Beta, Ghalt’s shotgun was now over performing at his normal combat distance, so we have reduced it slightly. Reduced Ghalt’s Revolver Shotgun damage by 13% Versus: To help address late game player dropping, we’ve made the time windows to vote for surrender more generous. We want players to play until the final whistle, but if you’re team is getting steamrolled, we’d prefer an orderly surrender, rather than people bailing early and leaving their teammates hanging. We will continue to look at data and feedback to decide how to handle players who perpetually show bad sportsmanship by dropping from matches. Increased Surrender Time to Vote window from 30 seconds to 60 seconds Story: Based on Open Beta player data, we’ve made some balance changes to help speed up player progression through the level. Reduced the health of the Galactic Emperor in The Algorithm Bug Fixes: We’ve made various bug fixes and quality of life adjustments to help assist players to beat up Rendain. Fixed a bug with Miko’s heal beam aim assist |

Character Balance: AMBRA Ambra's ability to sustain damage and keep herself alive kept her as one of the top offensive picks. By reducing the damage and survivability, we see Ambra going back into more zone control roles where she has to proactively manage her sun spots. In addition, we found the beam range to put her at a medium to long range allowing her to kite melee enemies so we reduced the range to keep her more in short range category. Reduced melee damage by 15% El Dragon's damage output scaled way too high due to the passive and some bugs we found in testing. In addition, his ultimate is meant to be more damage over time so we reduced the instant damage component. Reduced Undisputed Champ bonus damage to melee damage from 3% to 1.5% per stack We like Galilea’s ability to jump into combat and be a front line tank. However, Galilea’s high attack damage promoted a much more aggressive behavior so we reduced her attack damage and immediate health regeneration. Reducing health regeneration maintains her ability to mitigate lots of incoming damage but now requires more tactical decision making then simply soaking damage and regenerating it all on a button push. Reduced Level 4 Left Helix Augmentation Chaotic Infusion healing per second by 50% Ghalt's promise of a shotgun wielding badass wasn't being fully realized with the low damage per pellet. We wanted to reward Ghalt for closing the range so we increased the shotgun damage. Players should now see the shotgun tear through enemies in close range. Increased Shotgun damage by 50% KELVIN A lot of Kelvin's ability to soak damage revolves around the passive shield manipulation. Most of the shield manipulations are multipliers based off of Kelvin's Max Shield Value which was set to a low number. Increasing the Max Shield Value increases the passive and all augmentations that manipulate the shield. With the increased survivability, Kelvin better suits the hit-and-run Defender role. Increased Permafrost passive shield regeneration amount by 80% KLEESE We believe Kleese's skills provide great area control but his base damage output was vastly underperforming. The increase to the primary attack and the secondary will reinforce some of the ranged damage loops for Kleese players. Increased Wrist Cannon damage by 50% We reduced attack damage and Fetch damage to tone down Shayne & Aurox's ability to burst down targets while maintaining all the utility attached to Shayne & Aurox's skills. We like where Shayne & Aurox sits between a harassing defender and a potential stealth killer. Removing some of the burst damage innate to our specialized killers helps keep Shayne & Aurox in that mixed role of harasser and killer. Reduced melee damage by 12% Game Mode Balance: INCURSION We recognize some matches of Incursion stalling around the sentry. We'd like to iterate gradually since many changes can have huge rippling effects. We're going to start with increasing the amount of time before a Sentry is able to begin recharging shields. We're going to increase the time so that teams who control the push can sustain damage onto the Sentry without having to fight the complete shield every time. Increased Sentry Shield Recharge Delay from 8 seconds to 12 seconds Bug Fixes: Fixed an issue with Shayne & Aurox’s stun animation |
